Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Finally, a good news.
After weeks of watching, hearing and living the bad news, there are a few things that we Filipinos can smile about, if the Pinoy spirit of bayanihan and our never-faltering sense of humor haven't do the trick yet.
Number 1 - Two Filipino telenovelas and actress, Angel Locsin are nominated in the 37th International Emmys. GMA 7's Magdusa Ka which starred Dennis Trillio and Katrina Halili and ABS-CBN's Kahit Isang Saglit (A Time For Us) with Jericho Rosales and Malaysian actress, Carmen Soo as the lead, are both nominated for Best Telenovela along with other country's bet like Brazil's India - A Love Story and France's Second Chance. Angel Locsin, on the other hand is nominated alongside Emma de Caunes of France, Cecilia Suarez of Mexico and Julie Walters (Molly Weasly in the HP series) of UK in the Best Actress category for her performance in ABS-CBN's ex-primetime series Lobo. The winners will be announced on November 23, 2009 at a Black-Tie Ceremony hosted by UK television star Graham Norton at the Hilton New York Hotel. You can visit the Philippine Entertainment Portal for more details.
Number 3 -Another Filipino actor had break in in the Hollywood arena through the movie Surviving Evil, though it is not a big-budgeted, major US flick, we are still proud of the feat that Joel Torre had done. And as an additional bonus, the movie revolves around the fabled human hybrid in Philippine folklore known as Aswang, it was not shot here in the Philippines though the story said it is, the film was actually shot in South Africa, probably because it is co-produced by an African production outfit. IMDb has a detailed report from the director to the cast, and even the synopsis of the film, you can also find a trailer clip in You Tube.
By the way, I would like to acknowledge Crisen for the heads up.
Number 4 and the best of them all - Filipino, Efren Penaflorida, is included in the elite list of nominees of CNN Heroes, as far as I know there are six categories - Championing Children, Community Crusader, Defending the Planet, Medical Marvel, Protecting the Powerless, and Young Wonder, Efren or Ka Ef, as he is fondly called by his students is under the Championing Children category. Click to know more about CNN Heroes and the people that are included in the list, you can also read a detailed story about Efren, his group and their mission, and as you're there already, you might as well vote for him, I just did.
