Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, Jim Johnson, died last Tuesday afternoon after battling with the cancer Melanoma for months.
He was one of the most respected figures in the 21st century NFL and regarded as one of the most defensive minds in the league during his 22 years stint as an assistant coach and his nine years work as defensive coordinator on the team of Eagle's coach Andy Reid. Opponents were befuddled by his creative blitz packages, and his players praised his straightforward approach.
Though it was obvious that he was sick, he still did his coaching job through the help of a motorized cart until the team announced last January that Jim Johnson was taking a leave of absence to undergo treatment of Melanoma. Sean McDermott was relegated as the interim defensive coordinator back then but the interim tag was taken off just before the training camp started, with Jim Johnson's blessings, of course.
He will always be remembered, God speed...
