Remember a few posts back (Just a Heads Up), I mentioned about two long holidays in November, the first one just passed us through (Nov.1 and 2) and the second one was just taken away from us by the Malacanang Palace *sigh*. I don't have a typical 9-5 grind and my line of work isn't even cover by holidays but as I have a son who goes to school, I tend to love holidays more. Holidays means I can stay in and out of bed later than usual, it means I can just lounge around in the morning and skip my weekday routine of running and circling around as we prepare for school, it also means I can watch TV all I want and hubby will and can take-over whatever task I have, can you blame me if I love holidays so much.
MANILA - President Arroyo has amended an earlier proclamation and declared that only in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao would the Muslim festival of Eid'l Adha be celebrated as holidays on November 27 and 28.This one's just another heads up *grins*.Proclamation No. 1808-A, signed by President Arroyo on October 26, declared the observance of Eid’l Adha as a regional holiday in ARMM as stated in Republic Act 9492 – the law which rationalized the celebration of national holidays which was enacted in 2007.
MalacaƱang, in Proclamation No. 1808 signed April 12, declared that Eid’l Adha was to be observed as a national holiday. The earlier Palace order cited the Muslim festival as one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.
It would have marked the first time that the Muslim celebration, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice and held by Muslims after the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, would have been observed as a national holiday. The earlier proclamation aimed for an equal accommodation to the great festivities of Muslims and Christians as it also cited great feasts of the Christian church such as Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, and All Saints’ Day are national holidays.
Eid al-Adha is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims. It commemorates the sacrifice made by the Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) when God asked him to give his own son.
With the new proclamation, Nov. 27 and 28 would only be non-working holidays in ARMM.
Meanwhile, November 30, a Monday, is a regular non-working holiday to commemorate Andres Bonifacio Day.
