I never really expected much from PGMA (Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo), she unseated Erap (Joseph Estrada) and then went on cheating on the last presidential election to stay on power, imagine with all the rallies and boohoos trying to oust her, she kept her hold on Malacanang and its resources, I can't see a hint of delicadeza on her, as in with all the corruption cases filed about her and her family, she's still there, unwavering, unaffected. What a %^&*$!
So, it was never a surprise to found out that she spent 20000 US dollars in one seating at Le Cirque together with her husband and corrupt cronies (in Tagalog, mga sugapang tuta), as first posted by the New York Post on August 7. What does she care if more than half of the Philippine population is dying of hunger and poverty, she's just our president, right?
But to make matters worse, she and her party didn't just did it once, they actually did it twice and would have done it more if they didn't cut their US trip short because of the death of the late President Aquino. The Washington Post noted that PGMA and her entourage of 65 had dinner at Bobby Van's Steakhouse on Fifth Street, NW and they spend a whooping 15000 US dollars, a generous tip included.
Heartburn Over Two Big Meals
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's visit to the White House on July 30 didn't draw much attention, and her dinner in Washington that night got nary a mention. And that's how it might have stayed -- if not for a controversial meal in New York City.
Arroyo is under fire in her native country for a $20,000 meal at Manhattan's Le Cirque on Aug. 2, which included caviar and several bottles of champagne. The dinner, first reported in the New York Post, has Arroyo's critics comparing her to the extravagant Imelda Marcos.
The Reliable Source has learned that three days earlier, Arroyo and an entourage of about 65 people (including security and food tasters) had dinner at Bobby Van's Steakhouse on 15th Street NW hours after she met with President Obama. The group took over one of the restaurant's private rooms and dined on lobster, steak and fine wines; at the conclusion of the meal, an unidentified woman opened a handbag stuffed with cash, counted out bills and paid the $15,000 tab -- which included a generous tip.
The Philippine Embassy did not return calls for comment Tuesday.*** a repost from The Washington Post
